What Treatments Do We Offer
In our spa, you’ll encounter various therapeutic approaches. The specific treatments we use depend on your typology and type of energy imbalance.
Holistic Diagnosis According to Traditional Tibetan Medicine
The diagnosis serves to determine individual typology and assess energy imbalances. It’s based on detailed medical history and examination of pulse, urine, tongue, eyes, and other body parts. Based on the examination, we recommend appropriate therapeutic procedures within Tibetan medicine, lifestyle changes or dietary habits, and other approaches as needed.
Ku Nye (kunye)
An oil massage aimed at restoring the body’s energy balance. Originating from the Tibetan Kingdom 3,900 years ago, it’s an original practice of the Tibetan medical tradition. Kunye has regenerative and strengthening effects, releases muscle tension, restores function of internal and sensory organs, and detoxifies. It helps eliminate neurological and psychological issues such as insomnia, anxiety, and depression, releases stress, and reduces pain and nervousness. The massage is performed with warm sesame or almond oil according to the client’s typology. It may include gentle joint mobilization, as joints are considered centers of bodily energy.
Herbal Moxa Horme
Along with Kunye massage, it’s considered the most effective external therapy for calming life energy imbalance (wind energy). Horme originates from Mongolia. It was regularly applied to Genghis Khan – his vitality and ability to conceive offspring even at an advanced age is attributed to Horme. Horme therapy involves applying pouches filled with herbs soaked in warm sesame oil to specific points. The pouches are filled with a mixture of herbs or seeds according to the desired effect, most commonly combining cumin, nutmeg, cloves, and ginger. Horme effectively treats mental and emotional disorders, reduces tension and stress, e.g., after severe shock, personal tragedies, surgeries, heavy bleeding, childbirth, etc.
Stone Massage Donye
Both cold and hot stones of various types are used according to the desired effect. Each stone has the ability to work with specific bodily energy. Stones can be placed on certain spots or moved along energy pathways. For example, agate is suitable for gallbladder problems and inflammation, warm lava stones are applied to support digestive fire or kidneys, crystal helps with feverish conditions, inflammation, and mental confusion.
Shell Massage
A unique and very pleasant technique. It has a calming effect on the mind and relieves pain caused by the nervous system. Tiger shell is suitable for treating meridians or back muscle pain, mother-of-pearl shell is used on facial muscles to prevent wrinkles..
Metsa (moxa)
Heat, usually generated by burning mugwort-filled cigars or incense sticks, is brought close to specific points. Heat on a painful point provides relief, promotes blood circulation, and removes energy blockages. Used for arthritis, rheumatism, lymphatic problems, digestive issues, and various internal organ-related difficulties.
Me Bum (mebum)
Cupping therapy known as “Buddha’s nectar bowl therapy.” Used for acute pain relief, most commonly on the spine and joints, and for releasing accumulated energy. Promotes smooth energy flow. We use copper cups, which are said to have the ability to extract harmful substances and negative energies from the body.
Lum
Steam bath combined with applying herbal salts to the body surface. Traditional Tibetan steam bath takes place in a wooden barrel. At Nima Dawa center, we offer full-body steam sauna combined with inhalation of natural essential oils. The sauna procedure differs from conventional steam saunas. After warming up, there’s no sudden cooling with cold water, but gradual cooling in a dry wrap. After the sauna procedure, herbal tea is drunk to help remove inflammatory processes from the body and support detoxification.
Chulum
Sitting bath in medicinal plant infusion. Releases mental and physical tension, suitable for neurological disorders, stiffness of limbs, tendons, muscles and ligaments, and menstrual problems. Water temperature increases to 40-42°C during the bath and then decreases again. Water reaches halfway up the torso below liver level.
Nejang
Therapeutic yoga used in Tibet for centuries to balance internal energy, open chakras, and release the mind. Nejang literally means “cleansing of the body’s energy points.” The exercise set includes 24 exercises and involves progressive self-massage of all body parts combined with visualization and breathing exercises.
